About the Project

The Center for Social Justice & Civil Liberties in the Riverside Community College District was awarded a generous Creative Corps Inland SoCal Grant to produce The Body of Freedom in 2023-2024.   We thank Creative Corps Inland SoCal for their generous grant that helped our project take wings!

For our third year, we proudly partner with the City of Riverside to produce 

The Body of Freedom Free Art Workshops and Exhibition at the Center for Social Justice & Civil Liberties.   The Body of Freedom is a collaborative project that partners Ramona High School, Division 9 Gallery, and the Center for Social Justice & Civil Liberties in supporting local artists to create inclusive, community-based art workshops rooted in social justice and equity. 

Visual Arts workshops include:

Community Quilt-Making with Erin Maroufkhani

The Dual Languange Immersion Mural with Zach Lewis 

Mosaic Butterflies with Cathy Maxwell & Greg Maxwell

Upcycled Scenic Design with Nicole Cloeren & Erin Maroufkhani

Upcycled Peace Bridge Workshop with Erin Maroufkhani

Paper Maché Sculpture with Cosmé Cordova

Freedom Collage with Patricia Diaz

All Art Workshops will be FREE and open to the public.

Community-based art workshops will run between 

September 27th – January 22, 2025.

All artworks created in the Fall workshops 

will be showcased in The Body of Freedom Exhibition, 

which will run between March 6 - May 7, 2026 

at The Center for Social Justice & Civil Liberties.
